A világon kevés olyan főváros létezik, amelyben hőforrások találhatók. Magyarország fővárosa ilyen. Budapest fürdőváros. Gyógyfürdőink többsége nem csupán turisztikai látványosságot nyújt, hanem ma már műemléknek is számítanak. Eredetük egészen a Római Birodalom koráig nyúlik vissza, nyerjünk betekintést a mai arculatukba, két ízben.

Budapest has held the title "City of Spas" since 1934, as it has more thermal and medicinal water springs than any other capital city in the world.Budapest's thermal waters were enjoyed by the Romans as early as the 2nd century, but it was only during the Turkish occupation of Hungary in the 16th century that the bath culture really started flourishing.Today, there are 7 public thermal baths in Budapest. Now let’s see four of them.
Széchenyi Gyógyfürdő és Uszoda/Széchenyi Bath
A Széchenyi Fürdőt Európa egyik legnagyobb fürdőkomplexumaként szokták emlegetni. A 21 medencéjével és számtalan wellness szolgáltatásával ki is érdemelte ezt a címet. Vízét afrodiziákumként tartják számon. 1913-ban épült, majd 1927-ben bővült strandfürdővel, valamint férfi és női népfürdőosztállyal. A hatvanas évektől nappali kórház is működött benne. A fürdő rengeteg szolgáltatása közül, amellyel a vendégeket várják, kiemelek néhányat: vannak gyógyvizes medencék, sodrómedence, gőzkamrák, szaunák, masszázsok (pl.: thai, aroma relax, csokoládé, lávaköves, púderes), SPA méregtelenítés, aquafitness, iszappakolás, gyógytorna, súlyfürdő, torna, úszásoktatás, és ez még nem minden. Pest első gyógyfürdőjébe legalább egyszer mindenkinek el kell látogatni, mert nem csak a szolgáltatások köre nagyon bő, de maga az épület is csodálatos látványt nyújt.

The Széchenyi Thermal Bath is one of the largest spa complexes in Europe. It's also the first thermal bath of Pest. It was built in 1913 by plans of Gyozo Czigler. The Bath was expanded in 1927 with a public bathing department for gentlemen and ladies and a beach site. In the middle of the 1960s, further transformations took place including the creation of a group thermal section in bathing suits as well as a daytime outpatient hospital (complex physiotherapy department). The reconstruction of the pools of the swimming section, their equipment with water filtering and circulation devices was completed in 1999.

Dagály Strand- és Gyógyfürdő/Dagály Bath
A Dagály először 1948-ban nyitotta meg kapuit, vizét ekkor még egy 1944-ben fúrt kút biztosította, hogy hasznosítsák a Duna medre alatt elfolyó termálvizet. Később, 1970-ben már a Széchényi Gyógyfürdő vizét vezették ide, ezáltal a Dagály bekerült a budapesti gyógyfürdők közé. Jelenleg tíz különböző medence vár bennünket festői környezetben, köztük termálmedencék, gyerekmedencék, uszoda és strandmedencék. Számtalan gyógyszolgáltatás közül választhatunk, például lábmasszázs, gőzkamra, vízsugármasszás, aroma masszázs, ivókúra, szauna, stb. Akik nem gyógyulni érkeznek ide, azok is megtalálják a helyüket, őket és a gyerekeket sodrófolyosó, vízágyú, hullámfürdő, strandröplabda pálya, fitness gépek, streetball pálya, lábtenisz várja. Természetesen, ha megéhezünk, akkor sincs probléma, a vendéglátó ipari egységek erről is gondoskodnak.

This Bath first opened in 1948. Later, in 1956 it was expanded with a 50m swimming pool. Its water base at that time was provided by a well that was bored in 1944, which finally secured the efficient use of the thermal waters found under the bed of the Danube. In 1970, the water of the Széchenyi Thermal Bath was directed to Dagály Bath, thus raising it to the status of a thermal bath. Dagály has provided a full range of medical services to its guests ever since. The 25m length swimming pool, with its water filter and circulation system and a tent (canvas) roof was opened in 1983. At the moment, there are 10 pools of various forms and temperatures in the facility's pleasant, picturesque surroundings.

Szent Lukács Gyógyfürdő/Lukács Bath
A Lukács Fürdő története egészen a XII. századig nyúlik vissza, amikor is rodoszi és máltai lovagrendek telepedtek le a környékére, akik fürdőt is építettek a kolostoraik mellé. 1884-ben komoly átalakításokon ment keresztül, azóta érkeztek ide a világ minden tájáról a gyógyulni vágyók. A fürdő a világörökség részeként van nyilvántartva, ezért az 1999-es restaulások óta próbálnak mindent úgy helyreállítani, hogy tükrözze a századeleji fürdőhely-hangulatot. Az úszómedencék mellett élménymedence, gyógymedence és súlyfürdőmedence várja a látogatókat. A wellness részlegen is számtalan élménnyel gazdagodhatunk a szauna és jégkása, Himalája sófal, merülő medence, lounge és kneipp medence által. Ezeken túl számtalan masszázs (pl.:aroma relax, frissítő svéd, talpreflexzóna) közül választhatunk, illetve igény esetén gyógytornán vagy fizikoterápiás kezelésen is részt vehetünk.

In the 12th century, knights of the order of Saint John engaging in curing the sick settled in the area of today's Lukács Bath, followed by the orders of Rhodos and Malta, who built their monasteries baths too. The bath operated through the time of the Turks but the energy of the springs were used primarily to produce gunpowder and for grinding wheat. After the reoccupation of Buda, the bath became the property of the Treasury. In 1884, Fülöp Palotay purchased the bath from the Treasury, and a series of transformations began. The spa hotel was built, an up-to-date hydrotherapy department was established and the swimming pool was transformed. People who wish to be healed came from all over the world. Following their successful healing cure, they placed marble tablets on the wall of the Bath's courtyard to express their gratitude.

Dandár Gyógyfürdő/Dandár Bath
A Dandár érdekes múltra tekint vissza: 1928-ban egy határozat alapján minden budapesti kerületben létesíteni kellett egy népfürdőt, hogy az emberek olcsón hozzájuthassanak a fürdéshez. A Dandár volt az első tisztasági fürdő. Az 1978-as felújítása óta gyógyfürdőként üzemel. Jelenleg öt medencével, és már wellness részleggel is rendelkezik. Szolgáltatásaikban nincs hiány, szaunával, szénsavas kádfürdővel, vízsugármasszázzsal, gyógymasszázzsal, pedikűrrel várják a látogatókat.

The architectural plan for the public bath in Dandár Street was prepared by Ferenc K. Császár. The Bath was commissioned in 1930 then transformed in 1936. During the 2nd World War the Bath was only slightly damaged so it could be opened as soon as 1945. Originally, the Bath operated as a sanitary bath. In 1978 however, following a thorough reconstruction, it was put into operation as a thermal bath.
